Winning the toss they elected to bat first on a very slow wicket. Gradually
building a score opening batsmen Clive Foot and Tomas Dowling had a
partnership of 60 at the halfway mark of 20 overs. Foot lost his wicket with
a solid 25 runs then and another soon followed, Thomas White being dismissed
for just 3. Sean Farrell entered the fray and helped move the score along to
111 by the 32nd over. Farrell lost his wicket, being run out by some poor
calling by Dowling. Derek Deacon entered the fray and hit some tremendous
shots to race the score along, scoing three sixes in his 45 run
contribution. Dowling carried his bat for 46 runs. The final tally was a
good 185 for wickets.
This looked ample, especially when North Kildare were 3 down for 5 runs, and
then 5 for 47. Michael Dick bowled tightly, his stock delivery of yorkers
rarely absent. He picked up 3 wickets for 14 runs. However two of the
Kildare Middle order joined forces and hit some lofty shots out of the
ground to worry 'Towns players somewhat. Pace bowler White was being kept
in reserve in case of such dangers and gradually building up speed contained
the pair to few runs, bowling a good line and length.
With the score on 108 and sixes and fours aplenty bowler Sunil Charles kept
his confidence up and eventually bowled one of the danger men and relief was
evident in the home sqaud. The tail was wiped up pretty easily and 'Town
finished up with a 55 run victory. Sunil Charles picked up 2 wickets for 37
runs, Ed Hart 1 for 25, White 1 for 21 and Nigel Fennell 1 for 4.
